Water treatment - Ozone
Ozone is a strongly oxidative gas that is produced from oxygen using electrical energy. It is an unstable molecule and tends to break down spontaneously producing oxygen once again (its half-life at 20°C is about 30 minutes), so it cannot be stored and has to be produced directly at the point of use.
The employment of ozone produced by a SOL plant and introduced into the water by means of high-performance Ecojet® technology, guarantees effective, competitive solutions for disinfecting process water, in particular in the case of wastewater recycling, without producing any potentially harmful sub-products or increasing the salinity of the water. In the treatment of wastewater, SOL ozone disinfects, eliminates residual colour, reduces any surfactants or phenols or other chemicals that are hard to attack, without creating sludge that then has to be disposed of; in fact, this technology increases the biodegradability of the water thanks also to the oxygen that is dissolved in it together with the ozone.
The most modern ozone-production technologies offer levels of conversion of the pure oxygen used as a raw material of more than 16%, and usage efficiency of nearly 100%: in particular, the production of ozone from pure oxygen considerably reduces both the cost of investment and the electrical consumption of the ozone production system compared with systems using air. The specific characteristics of the oxygen supplied by SOL prolong the useful life of the plant thanks to the very low humidity content which, if present in potentially uncontrolled quantities, for example when using compressed air, can lead to frequent breakages.
Ecojet® technology also permits the reuse (for example in water-purifying plants) of the oxygen released by the plant after the ozone is dissolved and used: this makes for further savings and an increase in the overall efficiency of the treatment process.
